Our Vision
The Rural Parkinson's Alliance serves rural community members and healthcare workers by providing information and support services to those affected by Parkinson's disease.
Our collective goal is for comprehensive and respectful care so people with Parkinson's and their family members can live productive, full, and hope-filled lives.
Parkinson’s disease (PD) may be vastly underdiagnosed and undertreated in rural communities — not because it’s rare, but because many communities don’t have the language, access to health care, or support systems to identify it. Neurologists, especially movement disorder neurologists who can best diagnose PD, can be hours away or not available at all. Social media, where awareness campaigns thrive, is often inaccessible. In these areas, health education can be lacking, and rare diseases are a mystery.
