Programs and services 

Greater Fresno Parkinson's Support Group

Serving the greater Fresno region, this group provides people living with Parkinson's and their families and caregivers a way to share their PD experiences and learn with an understanding community. 

Lodi Parkinson's Support Group

Their community of people are on the journey dealing with PD. Their format is education, resources, social connections and building community/support. The hardest thing about PD is being alone. This support group meetings include speakers, group discussions and fun. A local community support group of the Parkinson Association of Northern California.

Give For A Smile and Parkinson's Group (Promotores Embajadores de Parkinson)

Their vision is to provide tools and resources to low-income families to help them reach a dignified standard of life plus they host monthly Parkinson's and Support classes on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month at 8 am PST. Click here at meeting time

GFAS also has these programs available:

  • All families must be healthy to pursue their dreams and goals. The HIEA (Health Insurance Enrollment Assistance) program is to help families find, enroll, and retain an affordable healthcare policy and/or qualifying free health coverage.

  • Communities must be kept informed about new medical plans, restrictions, laws, and dispositions regarding. Covered CA. GFAS provides a CCOE (Covered CA Outreach & Education) program.

  • A devasting neurological disorder affecting many members of our communities is Parkinson's. The PDLSG (Parkinson Disease Latino Support Group) program aims to reach communities that have received little or no knowledge of Parkinson's and about services available to manage it. They also train community leaders to bring this information to persons working in the fields and to rural residents. 

  • They host other programs including mental health counseling, an asthma program and a nutritional consulting program.

Parkinson Association of Northern California Spanish Language Online Support Group 

Meet others experiencing similar situations, receive advice and useful tools, and listen to professionals who share advances in the treatment of PD. In Spanish on Zoom for people with PD, their caregivers, and family members.

Davis Phinney Foundation 

Davis Phinney is an Olympic Bronze medalist and Tour de France stage winner. In 2000, after years of feeling not right, he was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's. He created his foundation which has now reached hundreds of thousands of people with practical tools and resources focused on helping people with PD to improve their quality of life. 

Pair Team Medical Care Advocates and Services

Pair ​Team helps vulnerable patients overcome barriers to medical, mental health, and social services by connecting them to local care teams. They meet patients where they are at -- in shelters, hospitals, or the community, to ensure they get the right support at no cost. 

Episcopal Diocese of the San Joaquin Valley

The Episcopal Diocese of the San Joaquin Valley is pleased to be a partner in the Rural Parkinson's initiative. Their ministries include an antiracism and reconciliation commission, creation care commission, Latino ministries, and more. In keeping with their baptismal covenant as Christians, they also work with other organizations to support the refugees and immigrants who live among us as neighbors and friends. 

Bowman Law Practice

For legal experience while navigating challenges that may arise, Bowman Law Practice can support people with Parkinson's with:

  • Document Preparation, or medical powers of attorney, healthcare directives, estate and trust planning, end of life care (this enables families to ensure they have the legal authorities to handle medical and financial implications of PD when their loved one is ill or incapacitated).

  • Personal injury litigation including experience representing or helping to find representation for persons with Parkinsons.

  • Employment litigation including for disability/ADA issues, retaliation and harassment when requested special accommodations needed are refused or exercising one's rights to FMLA and legal disability provisions.

  • Special language assistance or document translation and legal review.

Community Neurosciences Institute

Community Neurosciences Institute Fresno treats patients with brain, spine and pain issues. It is a multi-specialty group of care providers comprised of neurosurgeons, neurologists, pain management specialists, and dedicated allied health professionals. Their team is equipped to handle the most complex conditions, including Parkinson's Disease. Their goal is to treat the whole patient and strive to provide care to each patient as if they are family. Medi-Cal accepted. 

Rock Steady Boxing Fresno

Their program is strategically crafted, drawing inspiration from a diverse array of exercise disciplines to provide a comprehensive approach to tackling Parkinson's. Whether it's building strength, boosting energy, developing speed, improving flexibility, or sharpening mental focus – their program covers it. Let the power of their workouts redefine what is possible for you.

Speech Therapy at Fresno State University

The basic services offered by the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic include diagnosis, and treatment for individuals who may experience a variety of different communication problems or disorders. Clients can self–refer and can live anywhere in the San Joaquin Valley. Services are provided for free or by donation in both English and Spanish by graduate students under the direct supervision of faculty members or contracted speech-language pathologists.
